Fine Arts are an integral part of the curriculum at CSUS. In addition to providing a vital balance to a rigorous academic program, the arts nourish the spirit and help complete what makes an individual fully whole and human. Indeed, CSUS students are encouraged to consider all four "A's" as they pursue their education: academics, arts, athletics, and activities. In middle school, students are introduced to the fine arts program by participating in a fine arts rotation each year. 6th graders rotate through art, drama, movement, and music. 7th graders take art, drama, and music, and 8th graders rotate through art, drama, and production and design (technical theater). Students interested in pursuing dance, drama, and choral and instrumental music have opportunities to participate in various school productions and events. In the upper school, arts are elective and students may select from the full curriculum of fine arts courses. Students are required to take a minimum of two years of arts courses before graduation, though most elect to take more. Offerings include: vocal music, instrumental music, drama, production and design, video, art, ceramics, graphic design, photography, and dance. Some performance classes require auditions. The school holds performances throughout the year to showcase its talent. From the upper school Fall Drama to the Holiday Program, from Fine Arts Night to the Middle School Musical, there are a variety of opportunities for families and community members to witness the strength of this program.

US Fall Play Informational Meeting 8/31/2010 9:15 AM Contact: Antoinette Wrubel
On Aug. 25th, the first day of school, a sign-up sheet and character sketches will be posted on The Callboard in the Student Center.
On August 31st an informational meeting for all those interested in auditioning, or working on the production will take place during consultation period in the theater. Bring your questions.
Audtions for STICKS ‘N STONES by Ev Miller, this year’s upper school fall play, will begin Tuesday September 8th and continue through Friday, September 10th.
We will be casting for twenty-two speaking roles plus extras with some doubling. If you are interested in participating in CSUS theatre, come to the meeting on the 31st. New students are welcome. Start the buzz and get involved. We love surprises!
Production Dates: November 4, 5, 6. Save the dates!
The Play: Matt Collins is an outstanding young high school English teacher whose reputation is flawless. The students love this excellent teacher and the parents are grateful for him. Collins has assigned a modern American novel, one that is certainly as pristine as any PG-rated movie. Even so, the mother of one of the students respectfully objects. Collins is half inclined to substitute another book. Then push goes to shove and suddenly Collins' back starts to stiffen. With the best of intentions, emotions begin to rise on both sides. This is further heightened when a national fringe group tries to use the differences here for their own purposes, and suddenly the young teacher is not only fighting for the right to teach what he thinks is worthwhile, he's fighting for his job. The issues are as current as tomorrow's newspaper and as old as the printed word. Adapted from Dramatic Publishing Company’s edition.
IMPORTANT DATES Wednesday, August 25th: Sign-up sheet posted on the Callboard. Tuesday, August 31st: Consultation Period- meeting in the theatre (upper school only). Tuesday, September 7: Auditions 3:20 in the theatre. Please be prompt. Wednesday, September 8th: Callbacks are posted on the Callboard by consultation period. Callbacks begin at 3:20 in the theatre. Thursday, September 9th: Cast is posted. Mandatory all-Cast read through on Stage at 3:20. Friday, September 10: Rehearsal 3:20-5:20.
Rehearsals take place after school from 3:20 to 5:20 Monday through Thursday, and from 2:45 to 4:45 on Fridays. Rehearsal schedules are posted every two weeks. Tech Week rehearsals, and other important rehearsal dates, will be noted at the first rehearsal. Antoinette Wrubel, Director
