As the 2009-2010 Sports Season winds down, the Gryphon Club encourages our Crystal families to come out and cheer our hard-working athletes. We have an exciting Spring schedule of athletic events, so come out and support our teams! The Gryphon Center is humming with action with the Upper School Co-ed Badminton Team in full swing, as well as three Middle School Girls Volleyball teams. Under sunny skies, we have Baseball, Golf, Softball, Swimming, Tennis and Track — so come out and enjoy the fun! Be sure to check the Athletics section on the Crystal website for the most up to date information on game locations. Maps and game information for our off-campus and away games are provided for all teams.

 | 1st Annual Gry*Fun*Run - A Success!

On Sunday, January 31st, the first annual CSUS 5K Gry*Fun*Run took place under clear skies. There were over 150 registered participants, and more than 50 volunteers and spectators. A huge thank you goes out to Linda Feng and Sharon Lexa Galvin for organizing this fabulous community event. We also want to thank all of the runners and walkers who participated in the race, as well as all of the volunteers and spectators who cheered our racers to the finish line. A special mention goes out to the ‘Peninsula Princesses’, Lori Bard, Patty Raleigh, and Patty Sprague, and our great Gryphon mascot, Cash C.
We also want to thank Coach Robertson for leading the warm-up session before the race, and thank AJ Goldman for emceeing the post-race program. A warm thank you goes out to our post-race student performers: Gabe B-F, Lailah D, and Chris D.

 | Winter II Sports Season Starts for Middle School

Our second set of winter sports is starting for the Middle School. The girls will be playing basketball this season with practices starting on January 11, and the boys will be playing soccer with practices officially starting January 20. The following provides some general team information. For more detailed information and schedules, please go the Athletics home page>>. Go Gryphons!
Girls Basketball will have 3 teams:
JV A – Coach Dave Robertson
Varsity A – Coach Meliame Halaufia
Varsity B – Coach Sandy Perry
Boys Soccer will have 3 teams:
JV A – Coach Eric Loesch
Varsity A – Coach A.J. Goldman
Varsity B – Coach Adrian Baker
The JV A teams are for 6th grade only. Varsity A & B teams are primarily 7th and 8th grader players, but can include 6th grade athletes. The coaches will be assessing athletes and skill levels during the initial practices and may not finalize team rosters until just before schedules games start. The coaches or our team parent coordinator, Christine Stiles, will contact you once the teams are set with more information regarding schedules and team-specific information, so please stand by.
Please hold the following dates to come out and show your Gryphon Spirit:
Girls' Basketball- Opening games are January 21 for Varsity B, January 25 for Varsity A and January 30 for J VA.
Boys' Soccer - Opening games are February 1 for the J VA and Varsity A teams and February 4 for Varsity B.
