Test scores are just one aspect of a student’s file. Although we find them to be helpful as a standardizing mechanism in the admission process, a broad range of test scores exist among students accepted to CSUS.
Middle School and Upper School Applicants must submit the results of one of the following standardized tests taken during the fall/early winter of the current school year.
All applicants should complete admission testing by February 1, 2020. Please note that ISEE spaces fill up quickly, and registering for a January test can be difficult.
Even though CSUS is one of several testing sites for the ISEE, applicants may take the test at any location.
ISEE vs SSAT Test scores are just one aspect of a student’s file. Although we find them to be helpful as a standardizing mechanism in the admission process, a broad range of test scores exist among students accepted to CSUS. We do not have any minimum scores or cutoffs for consideration for admission.
Crystal understands that admission testing can be stressful, and we want to make the process as easy as possible for applicants and their families. This is why we accept both the ISEE and the SSAT. Our hope is that families will only have to sacrifice one weekend day of their time for testing. We encourage you to visit both the ISEE and SSAT websites to learn more about the tests, their differences, and to determine which test is the best fit for your child. We do not have a preference, and both tests are looked at equally in the admission process. We do not encourage outside tutoring, and both the ISEE and SSAT offer samples tests if you are looking to familiarize yourself with the format of the test. We also do not encourage multiple test-taking, unless there was an illness or other major factor that may have negatively impacted the results.
The Character Snapshot This year, the EMA (Enrollment Management Association) launched a new assessment tool called the Character Snapshot. As a member school of EMA, we will accept results of the Character Snapshot should your student choose to take the test, but these results will not be considered as part of the student’s application for admission. We are constantly evolving as an office, looking at current research on testing and alternative predictors for success. Our goal will be to examine any results we receive after the admission season is over to determine whether the Character Snapshot is pertinent to the admission process at Crystal. We are aware that there is additional time and cost for this test, and want to make sure our applicant families’ time and resources are being used efficiently.
To register for the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE), please visit www.iseetest.org.
CSUS is listed under the San Francisco Peninsula Consortium. You will need to register your child for the exam at least 3 weeks before the test date; if your child needs special accommodations, you should start the registration process 5 weeks before the test date.
In addition to group testing at schools, the ISEE can also be taken at any ProMetrics testing site at a time convenient for the student; more information can be found on the ISEE website.
