I chose Crystal because of its strong academic programs, welcoming and supportive community, and creative outlets. Crystal’s academic programs are challenging to all of us in different ways. At the beginning of 6th grade, I was given time to adjust to the new learning environment. My teachers made learning fun, and my classmates and I inspired each other with curiosity and enthusiasm, which allowed us to dive deeper into our projects. Throughout 7th grade, I took on growth challenges in class, such as researching how the mRNA vaccine works and completed a budgeting project simulating real-life scenarios. One of the many reasons that I chose Crystal is the warm faculty, staff, and students. The day that I visited Crystal, I met kind teachers and students. My host made me feel as if I were part of the community already and let me experience what a day in the life of a Crystal student was like. Crystal offers a variety of extra courses. Once a week, we have a Pursuit of Passion (PoP) session, and another day we have Clubs. PoP is teacher-led, and Clubs are student-led. In PoP, we have the opportunity to learn things that our teachers are passionate about, such as gardening, note-taking, and math puzzles. Clubs are led by 8th graders who share their hobbies, including board and card games, reading, and movies. Crystal is an inclusive and affable community.

I chose Crystal because I wanted to go to a school where I could feel at home. My family and I have known Crystal for years, so I knew that I would like to come here, but as soon as I stepped onto the Crystal grounds, I knew this is where I wanted to go. Crystal is not only a school, it is a place where kids and adults alike come to enjoy school and have fun while doing work. Crystal is like a second home to me. It is fun. It is a place to play during lunch and sports and a great place to learn because of the invested teachers.

One of my favorite Crystal Traditions has to be PoP week! Every year, there is a week in which there are no academic classes when the Crystal Professional Adult Community (PAC) picks something they want to teach--something they are passionate about beyond their academic subject. As a student, I got to pick what activity I wanted to do for a whole week! It's super fun, and a nice break. In 6th grade, one of the teachers did a musical group! It was great! In 7th grade, I did a mindfulness group, and it was very relaxing. I got to do things I had never expected to try before! What makes it so awesome is that the teachers and students get to do something they love.

I chose Crystal because of the welcoming community and strong academic program. Crystal's community is welcoming and supportive of every person, which allows everyone to grow. When I visited, both the teachers and students were super kind, showing the bond between everyone in the community and making me feel welcome before I was even enrolled. Crystal understands that everyone has different strengths and learning styles and accounts for that, letting everyone grow at their own pace academically. At Crystal, I can apply myself fully, and enjoy the experience at the same time. Outside the classroom I've been able to meet new people from other grades and make new friends through our common interests. Crystal helps everyone grow as a person and academically, and it has helped me a lot as well. I am very lucky to go to Crystal and be part of it's community.

I chose Crystal because of its community. Crystal’s community encourages me to stretch myself and try new things. This has allowed me to discover new passions and get involved with activities I never thought of trying. Because of Crystal, I have now developed a passion for the backstage crew in theatre. It has also allowed me to look at school and academics differently. Thanks to the incredible teachers at Crystal, I enjoy school more and look forward to returning each day. Finally, the Crystal community has allowed me to make new friends and meet new and interesting people. Crystal has allowed me to grow as a person and try new things, so I am glad I chose Crystal.

I chose Crystal because it provides a good balance between academics and extracurricular activities such as sports and theater. The teachers are supportive, and help me through schedule conflicts, workload, and more when it comes to extracurriculars. During my first year at Crystal, I was able to juggle soccer, theater, and academics. The school has excellent programs in all three of these areas, allowing me to continue my hobbies in school. This encourages students to try new activities and gain new experiences, something which I really liked about Crystal.

My favorite Crystal tradition is Lip Sync! I love getting on stage, dancing, singing and overall having a great time with my classmates. It is a great bonding experience, and I learn cool, new facts about everyone. For example, I never knew one of my friends could dance, or that my brother could sing. Lip Sync brings our entire community together and makes Crystal feels like one big family. Crystal is my second home, and being able to enjoy my time in a place where I feel welcomed and included is amazing!

My favorite Crystal tradition is PoP week. It is one of my favorite weeks of the year because it mixes some learning with a lot of fun. This week is also a great way to discover a new passion and try something you've never done before. POP week is also a way to learn more about our faculty and connect with them about some of their interests. Their are a variety of options for PoP week. My first year at Crystal I chose gardening and my second year I worked with insects. Both of those activities are ones I never thought I would have an interest in. Pop week helped me explore more fun activities!

My favorite place on campus is the Cafeteria. The first thing that comes to mind when I think about the Cafeteria is the amazing food. A high-quality snack and lunch are served there every day, made by Crystal's amazing chefs. Additionally, the wide selection of food such as the fruit and salad bar, the gluten-free options, vegetarian options, and a variety of beverages, accommodates every students' dietary needs, not to mention the frozen yogurt machine, which really won me over when I visited Crystal for the first time. Other than the food, I have many great memories from Crystal already.

My favorite place on campus has to be the Cafeteria. I remember entering it almost every day to be met with the smell of delicious food. The Cafeteria on campus isn't only a place where I eat, but where I can talk to my friends while we enjoy our meals. Also, The Cafeteria transforms into a music class during the day! I love having music in a space with wide windows that look out onto the canyon behind the school. It is a bright open sunny space to enjoy music. Did I mention my teacher's dog loves to sun itself while we have class? I love it when she brings her dog to school!

Throughout my time at Crystal, I have seen and experienced many "So Crystal" moments. Yet one moment that I will never forget was when I was a 6th grader. The 8th graders were reciting their hall speeches and one student's hall speech was coming out as gay to the Crystal community. Once they finished their speech, everyone immediately started screaming and cheering. Suddenly, rainbow-colored balloons and streamers were thrown from the balcony, happy and exciting music was playing, and everybody was going up to this person and hugging them. This was definitely a "So Crystal" moment because this celebration was one of the many ways Crystal has shown that we accept, support, and celebrate everybody's differences. Whether it's race, gender, identity, or relationships, Crystal wants everybody to know that they will always have Crystal's overflowing support.

My favorite place on campus is Expansion Hall because that is where we all gather together as one big Crystal family. It's heartwarming to see everyone's faces filled with joy during school plays, exciting announcements, fun surprises being shared, 8th grade hall speeches, fairs for Pops/Clubs, and much more. There's always so much laughter and happy smiles all around making me feel right at home. I look forward to going back to school having more fun-filled experiences taking place in Expansion Hall.

My favorite tradition at Crystal is Snow day! The best part is that it’s a surprise and no one knows when it is. It’s a fun-filled day with no classes. To elaborate on my experience, when I was in 6th grade, everyone was in Expansion Hall and I had no clue what was coming. All of a sudden I saw white styrofoam pieces falling from the roof of the building. Everyone was screaming and jumping in excitement and I still had no idea what was going on. I then turned to my friend and they explained to me that it was Snow Day. I was so excited and couldn’t wait for the fun activities to come. Once everyone settled down, we all were told to get on a bus. The bus took us to the movie theaters and we watched Frozen 2. After that, we went to the upper school campus and played in bouncy houses, and ate cotton candy and snow cones. I cannot wait for the next Snow day!

There have been so many "So Crystal" moments throughout my middle school experience, but one moment, in particular, was at convocation on my first day of 6th grade. I immediately felt welcomed into the community, even though I didn't know anyone. As soon as I stepped off the bus, I was surrounded by seniors who couldn't wait to meet the new 6th graders. When I walked through the crowd of seniors, I knew that I had made the right decision by choosing Crystal. Everyone was having fun and celebrating the start of school, and they made sure to include the new 6th graders. I had never been to a school where every student and teacher loves going to school every day, and my first day at Crystal felt like a breath of fresh air. I had already made a few friends, loved my teachers, and I was ready for a great school year.

I chose Crystal because of the many options offered to students. When my family first joined the Crystal community it was because of my older sister. I was just a tag-along but was impressed with how welcoming this community was. Not only was it welcoming, but it encouraged and pushed students to be the best version of themselves. Right then, I had my heart set on attending the school. Three years later, it was my turn to come to the school. I was so excited to do the fall play and basketball, the spring musical, and tennis. Balancing between the two wasn't an issue at all. In fact, doing both theatre and sports has helped me improve my time management and organizational abilities tremendously.

One reason I chose Crystal is that the community is very welcoming and full of amazing, diverse people. When I walked in for my visit day, I could immediately feel that the atmosphere at Crystal was full of positive energy. Everybody at Crystal cares not only about their academics, but also about each other. Everyone is kind and people don't make me feel bad if I make a mistake. Instead, people at Crystal encourage me to do my best and to try my hardest. Teachers always encourage me and are open to answering any questions I have. Classes push me to be my best academic self, and my peers help me to just be me. The Crystal community welcomes anyone and everyone and is truly an amazing place to learn.

One of the most memorable moments for me at Crystal is an event we held to celebrate Diwali. I was in 6th grade and Crystal parents taught us Bollywood dance moves. Each grade went to Expansion Hall and choreographed their dance routines. In the end, each grade competed against each with their unique twist. That year my grade won! Not only was the dancing fun, but it showed how Crystal celebrates people of different backgrounds and cultures. As a student, I feel every person at Crystal is respected and valued. Whenever there is a significant holiday, such as Chinese New Year or Diwali, Crystal uses it as a learning opportunity. This is why I feel Crystal has such a positive and welcoming community!

I chose to attend Crystal because I wanted to be a part of a loving, kind, and supportive community that would empower me to become the best version of myself. I saw that Crystal had an outstanding academic program and multiple opportunities for furthering my athletic career, and I knew that it was the right school for me. Another reason I chose to go to Crystal was that I had already heard great things about it. My older brother attends Crystal, and when I was younger, he would always come home with these cool stories of what happened at school. Since then, I have had the honor of making my own memories at Crystal, which has been an amazing experience.

Out of the many amazing Crystal traditions we have, my favorite is Snow Day. Everybody looks forward to it all year. Every year, it's held on a different date, and we show up to school without even knowing that it's Snow Day. Classes are canceled and we spend the entire day doing fun activities and enjoying ourselves. I remember in 6th grade, we showed up to school and saw all the teachers bundled up in winter clothing. During the middle of morning meeting, music started playing while the teachers ran around, throwing fake snow and pretending to ice skate and make snow angels on the ground. Then it was announced that we were going to the movie theater to watch the opening day of Frozen 2. After the movie, we ended the day with visiting the Upper School to eat snow cones and cotton candy! I think that Snow Day is a great way to have fun and relax, and the spontaneity of it makes it all the more exciting. The teachers work so hard on preparing that day, and in the end, everyone really enjoys it and we all have a lot of fun.

One reason why I chose Crystal was the wonderful community. All of the staff and students at the Open House were very friendly and they seemed to really have a passion for what they did. It was amazing to see all the students who were speaking in front of the crowd; they were very articulate and showed a lot of courage. When I went from class to class in the Open House, I could tell that the teachers were going to be amazing and that they would make each class engaging while also teaching us valuable information. I have been at Crystal for two years now and I have been really happy about my decision to go to Crystal. Crystal has a very special community where everyone feels welcomed and everyone is important.

My favorite Crystal tradition is PoP week, which is a week that we aren't in our traditional classes. Instead, we learn about a topic that fascinates our teachers outside their usual discipline. I love it because it's so interesting to dive into a topic that broadens our understanding of the world. I also like that during PoP week, I interact and learn with students in other grades above or below mine in a fun, educational way. It's so nice to connect with the different grades because it makes me feel more like a member of a larger community while staying true to Crystal's commitment to learning.
