An Evening with Award-winning Poet Dr. Idris Anderson

To kick off the New Year, the CSUS Alumni Board was proud to host retired English Department Chair, Dr. Idris Anderson, who regaled a “sold out” crowd of alumni, alumni parents, faculty and friends with a reading from her latest award-winning volume of poetry, Doubtful Harbor. Idris’ selected reading of travel-themed poems transported the audience to Kuala Lumpur, Ireland, New Zealand, Alaska and beyond.

Idris was a revered English teacher at Crystal for 21 years. She noted that several of the journeys that are featured in her poems were enabled by Crystal, whether through grants, awards, sabbaticals or professional development funds.  Idris was asked about her favorite piece among her own work which turns out to be a poem she has worked on for decades; "Swamp" can be found here in the Crab Orchard Review. Idris is planning future books that are in works, and we look forward to more readings from this inspired artist.  Check out http://www.idrisanderson.com for more about Idris.
