Junior Year Timeline


Fall    
  • Take PSAT (October)
  • Take SAT and ACT diagnostic tests to determine which is best option for you (Oct/Nov)
  • Class wide meeting with CCO
  • Discuss PSAT results with college counselor and test prep options (if needed)
  • Encourage your parents/guardians to attend College Night for Junior Parents (Nov)
  • End of 1st Semester    Thanksgiving / Winter Break: If your travel plans take you to an area with colleges and universities, swing by for a tour!
  • Attend class-wide meeting with College Counseling Office (Jan)
  • Encourage parents to attend Parents Association meeting / alumni panel on the College Experience (Jan)
  • Complete “Game Plan” and “Resume” sections of Naviance
Winter    
  • Start thinking about, researching, applying to summer programs/activities
  • Make plan to visit colleges during school breaks during Spring Break
  • Register and take SAT Reasoning Test (March) / ACT (April)
  • Meet with advisor to discuss / update courses for senior year
  • Schedule meeting w/ College Counseling Office and parents/guardians to discuss college process
Spring    
  • Register and take SAT Reasoning Test / ACT and SAT Subject Tests (if applicable)
  • Take SAT Reasoning Test (May or June); ACT (June); SAT Subject Tests (May or June)
  • Take Advanced Placement (AP) exams (if applicable - May)
  • Spring Break: visit colleges and/or attend local college fairs / presentations (end of March/April)
  • Put your name on college mailing lists (through admission website) for those you’re interested in
  • Attend class-wide meeting with College Counseling Office during select advisories
  • Meet with college counselor to discuss progress and next steps
  • Attend Case Study Night and College Fair at Sacred Heart School (April)
  • Attend Panel Discuss with current CSUS Seniors about college process (May)
Summer    
  • Register with NCAA Clearinghouse if you intend to play DI or DII sports in college
  • Research scholarships and college financial aid resources
  • Schedule college visits and interviews (if applicable)
  • Summer program / activity and vacation
  • Update your college list on Naviance
  • Complete drafts of college essays
  • July 1st – August 1st: Colleges update and post application forms online (such as Common Application)
End of Summer or by Sept 1st
  • One completed application (essays, forms, etc)
  • If available, schedule meeting(s) with College Counseling Office to update list, review essays, etc.
