Junior Year Timeline


Fall
  • Take PSAT (October)
  • Attend class-wide meeting with the CCO (Sept, Nov)
  • Encourage your parents/guardians to attend Junior College Night (Sept/Oct)
  • End of 1st Semester
  • Thanksgiving/Winter Break: If your travel plans take you to an area with colleges and universities, swing by for a tour!
  • Discuss PSAT results with counselor and test prep options (if needed)
  • Attend class-wide meeting with College Counseling Office (Jan)
  • Complete “Game Plan” and “Resume” sections of Naviance

Winter

  • Start thinking about, researching, applying to summer programs/activities
  • Make plan to visit colleges during school breaks or during February Break
  • Register and take SAT Reasoning Test (March) / ACT (April)
  • Meet with advisor to discuss/update courses for senior year
  • Schedule meeting w/College Counseling Office and parents/guardians to discuss college process

Spring

  • Apply to summer opportunities
  • Register and take  SAT Reasoning Test / ACT and SAT Subject Tests (if applicable)
  • Take SAT Reasoning Test (May or June); ACT (June); SAT Subject Tests (May or June)
  • Take Advanced Placement (AP) exams (if applicable - May)
  • Attend Case Study Night and College Fair at Sacred Heart School (April)
  • Spring Break: visit colleges and/or attend local college fairs/presentations (end of March/April)
  • Put your name on college mailing lists (through admission website) for those you’re interested in
  • Explore Net Price Calculators on college websites to estimate financial aid offerings
  • Meet with college counselor to discuss progress and next steps, attend class-wide CCO meetings
  • Attend panel discussion with current CSUS Seniors about college process (May)

Summer

  • June 1st: Begin college financial aid process, get FSA ID from https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm
  • Register with NCAA Clearinghouse if you intend to play sports in college
  • Research scholarships and college financial aid resources including Net Price Calculator
  • Schedule college visits and interviews (if applicable)
  • Summer program / activity and vacation
  • Update your college list on Naviance
  • Complete drafts of college essays
  • July 1st : Colleges update and post application forms online (such as Common Application)
  • End of Summer or by Sept 1st: One completed application (essays, forms, etc)
  • If available, schedule meeting with College Counseling Office to update list, review essays, etc.
