CSUS Alumni events, held throughout the year, offer our alumni the opportunity to renew friendships and explore ways to stay connected with Crystal. Some events are an annual cocktail party, regional events, and the popular Alumni Networking Event. Past networking events focused on "Food, Wine, and Sustainability" and Entrepreneurship.
The Gryphon Gala is the Parent Association's annual community-wide auction fundraiser that brings together parents, alumni, students, staff and friends of CSUS to support the CSUS Recruitment and Retention Fund as well as financial assistance programs for students. It has had many themes including a 50’s Diner motif, a Safari to Africa and even a Spelling Bee competition. The Gala is a CSUS tradition and a great way to get involved whether volunteering to help or showing your support by attending the event.
Crystal Springs Uplands School takes pride in making connections and contributing meaningfully to the world that surrounds us. In addition to grade-level service learning days, there are school-wide opportunities to help the community at large. From Rebuilding Together to Habitat for Humanity to Family Community Service days, there are ample service opportunities for students and their families.
Family and Friends of current students are invited to attend a normal day of classes. While many families invite a grandparent, aunt or uncle to visit, some parents take the opportunity to see a typical day in action. There are no special performances or meetings, and families are asked to RSVP for this event.
Royal “Doc” Ingersoll was a member of the CSUS faculty for 21 years. He was an extraordinary teacher, mentor and coach as well as a passionate golfer. This tournament honors his commitment to education, both in athletics and academics, and allows the school to enhance the educational experience for all students.
Once a year, the Parent Association organizes a Parent/Child Night for all Middle School students and their parents. Based upon a theme, this event offers Middle School families a chance to enjoy an evening of fun and entertainment.
Parents are invited to many other events throughout the year including Homecoming, Food, Folks & Fun, theater productions, musical concerts, Family & Friends Day, Lunar New Year, Diwali Celebration, Fine Arts Festival and Commencement.
The Senior Luncheon is organized by parents of the junior class to serve a special luncheon for seniors and their parents in May (following the awards assembly). Seniors are also given a commemorative gift.
Parents are invited to attend the Common Ground Speaker Series which is presented by a coalition of Bay Area schools that have joined together to enhance parent education in our communities. Its goal is to bring nationally recognized speakers to our school communities. CSUS was a founding member of the Common Ground group, which is supported by our Parent Association.
The Spring Luncheon chairs oversee the theme and execution of the PA's traditional May Luncheon coinciding with the final Parent Association meeting of the school year.
Popular fine arts events are held throughout the year and include Great Performances, the Middle School and Upper School drama productions and musicals, Winter Concert, and the Fine Arts Festival. Through the Gryphon Club, the Athletics department hosts the Doc Ingersoll Memorial Golf Tournament each fall.
The Gryphon Gala(formerly "Madcap")is the major fundraiser sponsored by the Parent Association that directly benefits the school's incredible faculty, students and staff. Grandparents and special friendsare invited each year to Family & Friends Day to join students in classrooms.
Alums return each year for the Alumni Reunion held in the Uplands Mansion, but they can also join former faculty and other alums at gatherings in the SF Bay Area and in other regions throughout the U.S.
A sell-out crowd of parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends were "Welcomed Aboard" the Middle School campus cruise ship to set sail for an island adventure. We christened Expansion Hall on its inaugural Gryphon Gala voyage to kick off the party with tropical treats, silent auctions...
The CSUS Asian Culture Club's biggest event of the year, the Lunar New Year Banquet, attracted close to 400 guests who browsed festively decorated booths, tasted delicious multicultural cuisines, enjoyed performances ranging from a Bollywood Dance to K-pop video to Chinese musical performances and more.
On February 26th, we celebrated our 8th Annual Snow Day! A tradition launched by Amy Richards, Snow Day is a surprise day off from school for students (see middle schoolers’ reaction). For this Snow Day, students were whisked off of both campuses to Dave & Busters for lots of games, magic, food, prizes, and fun.
We welcomed about 200 guests for our first Family & Friends Day at the new Middle School on February 22nd. This was no day off from work as guests went back to school with their students, participating in science experiments, math problems, art lessons, historical interviews and more.
On a recent Community Engagement day, 24 ninth graders went to Sharp Park Beach in Pacifica to help clean up the parking areas, pier, and other public spaces. With the help of representatives from the Pacifica Beach Coalition, they sorted all of the trash and recyclables they collected, including over 700 cigarette butts!
Under the leadership of Parent Association Service Learning co-chairs Hina Maheshwari and Bettina Mirsepahi, Crystal families gathered on the US campus in early February to create care packages for families whose children are hospitalized and facing serious illness.
One of our longest and most treasured traditions, Lip Sync 2018 made a splash in numerous ways. It was our first time splitting the performances between the Upper and Middle School, though the 8th grade visited the Upper School and performed their lip sync there.
Family members and friends were invited to join Upper School students on Monday, January 29 to experience a "typical" day of classes. Whether it was visiting a mindfulness class in the Gryphon Center or solving problems in math, our guests were able to experience a snapshot of what life is like as a Crystal student.
With the opening of the Middle School campus comes the opportunity to create new traditions and reimagine our favorites. Great Performances, a long-standing tradition, showcases talented student performers outside of regular school programs. Dozens of our young alumni in college came home to Crystal in early January to visit with the seniors and their former teachers during our annual College Alumni Holiday Luncheon. Even though school was in session for current students, many alumni are still enjoying their winter break from college...
