Distance Learning at Crystal

While we shelter in place during these challenging times, school is in session with all classes and advisories following a regular daily schedule. So far, so good. We're managing glitches and adjusting to the new temporary normal well.

Here are two stories from the first days of distance learning. John Hauer reported that his Upper School Video Production class is creating good work and has benefited from a guest lecturer via Zoom, our online video platform. He snapped a photo of his wife Vicky Mann-Hauer teaching a choral class online in full St. Patrick's Day regalia on 3/17. We still have unbounded spirit and enthusiasm even as we meet each other on-screen.

MS dance teacher Julia Player shared a screen-shot of her students taking a Zumba class together today. All Mind Body and Fine Arts classes are still moving and creating!

On the plus side, students report enjoying meeting for classes but miss the in-person engagement. They are getting more sleep and experiencing a lot more family and downtime. They are doing more chores around the house and are keeping their bedrooms cleaner than ever. Some are venturing into cooking and all are looking forward to the day when school lunch service resumes.

They miss their friends and sports, most of all, but they're figuring out ways to stay active and fit, as much as possible. This moment is giving us all time to reflect upon what we are grateful for and how we can support each other.
