Dynamic Distance Learning

Learning from home can have its advantages, especially when students are given the task to build something complex from scratch. Eighth grade science teacher Rob Kashima explained the project, "A Rube Goldberg Machine is an overly complicated machine...

...with multiple steps that performs a simple task. The students' objective was to make a machine that has 12 energy transfers (an object moving another object) and includes two simple machines (e.g. pulley, lever, inclined plane). The simple task was to put toothpaste on a toothbrush."

The selected projects show a range of machine complexity but all were video recorded in such a way that it is relatively easy to follow the progress of the machine. The class as a whole did a great job working on this extremely difficult project during the first two weeks of our distance learning program.
