Crystal's Snow Day 2021

February 1st was Crystal’s “Snow Day” for the 2020-21 school year and most closely resembled what a real snow day looks like for students who live with bad weather. Students and PAC members took the day off from classes, slept in, and indulged in whatever fun activities they chose at home. Click on to read more.

Details of Snow Day 2021

Carter G ‘27 chills out in cold weather gear for our first “at home” Snow Day.

February 1st was Crystal’s “Snow Day” for the 2020-21 school year and most closely resembled what a real snow day looks like for students who live with bad weather. Students and PAC members took the day off from classes, slept in, and indulged in whatever fun activities they chose at home. Here’s what it entailed:

January 31, 5:00 pm: The Snow Day announcement goes out over the Crystal emergency network, email, and Instagram. It includes a video parody featuring PAC members celebrating the news!

Annie Brown, Middle School Spanish teacher, delivers Snow Day Survival Kits to siblings Himu ‘24 and Denali ‘26 P.

February 1, mid-morning: PAC members hand-deliver 569 Snow Day Survival Kits to students’ homes as far north as Sausalito, as far south as San Jose, as far east as Hayward, and as far west as Half Moon Bay. The kits include Crystal beanies, treats, fuzzy socks, and even a custom-made coloring book of PAC members’ dogs.

February 1, 1:00 pm: All students and PAC members convene for a virtual Community Meeting. Ms. Sortino announces a new surprise, Traditions Day, which will be an amalgamation of many beloved traditions that we’ve missed during the quarantine. Two Traditions Days will be held on consecutive Saturdays in April on the Upper School campus; see the trailer above.

In a Sri Lankan Leopard Safari, students learned how to read leopard spot patterns to see if the cats’ images match. These two are different leopards.

February 1, 1:30 pm: Students could join one of eight different exotic virtual experiences, including a Harry Potter tour/trivia session in Edinburgh, a Leopard Safari in Sri Lanka, a Buenos Aires street art/sketch lesson, and much more. Students could also opt to do nothing during that time--Who cares, it’s Snow Day?!
