Celebrating Diwali

We celebrated Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights, at the Middle School on Friday, October 20. Diwali is celebrated all over the world as one of the most popular festivals of Hinduism which spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair.

Crystal's celebration of Diwali is a community affair.  Director of Global Initiatives, Bill Kwong, works closely with students in the Asian Culture Club and parents who celebrate Diwali with their families to create an authentic atmosphere. Faculty and students dress in traditional holiday finery, create artwork such as Rangoli symbols, sample delicious sweet and savory treats, and learn several dances that they perform in front of the entire school. Diwali is a great "Growth Challenge," one of our Core Values, as students are asked to try many new things and do so with great openness and enthusiasm for the experiences.
