Varsity Football Wins 40-6

Our team entered the game after 2 consecutive losses and with the knowledge that Roseland had blown out Anzar, the team that beat us in a close game during our homecoming, 40-20. This game came after our bye week and marked the return to good health of seniors Owen D (QB), who was dealing with a shoulder injury, and Cam B (MLB/OL), who had missed 2 weeks due to knee problems.

The defense forced punts all game, and consistently scared Roseland away from trying to convert on 4th down. Sophomore Colm M (LB) led the team in tackles had an interception, and even returned a punt for a TD, leading to the best game of his career. The defensive line, led by juniors Andrew S (DL/OL) and Zach S (RB/DL) pressured the opposing QB all afternoon, and both players had multiple sacks. Sophomore Vikas B (CB/WR) was able to capitalize on the forced errant throws and had an acrobatic diving interception in addition to another similar one that was called back due to a penalty.

The offense had a few missed opportunities but was overall effective. QB Owen D had the best game of his life, and threw for 4 TD deep passes, all after demonstrating his experience by making important check-downs. Center Nico F led the offensive line by allowing almost no interior pressure the entire game. Junior Peter D (WR/RB) had multiple deep grabs and big runs in the 2nd half. Vikas B had a pair of TDs.

The score at halftime was 18-0. Ultimately, CSUS dominated the game due to outstanding QB play and a revamped defensive scheme drawn up by coach Brian Mellado. The team's record is now 4-2.
